Discovering Asteroids, Comets and Meteors 2026

Asteroids and comets have always intrigued stargazers with their diverse characteristics and dynamic movements across the night sky. Near-Earth asteroids are frequently in the news due to their hazardous nature, and have served as the plot lines of many science fiction movies and books. This book aims to be a comprehensive guide for observing and tracking the hundred brightest asteroids and comets in 2026, making them accessible targets for both observation and photography. The primary motivation behind creating this book is my fascination with asteroids and their highly variable orbits and brightness. The brighter asteroids are interesting visual targets, with the very brightest even being possible in small telescopes or binoculars, while the fainter asteroids offer frequent opportunities for unique photographs and animations. The book also provides detailed coverage of the most significant meteor showers of 2026. The cover picture shows Vesta, the second largest and by far the brightest of all the asteroids.
