WHERE THE LEOPARD PASSES

Malawi – sunlit, warm, friendly, but undeveloped, backward and impoverished; a quiet and largely forgotten corner of Africa. Forgotten, until the apparently motiveless murder of an eminent scientist suddenly focusses the attention of the world’s media. Superintendent John Chilembwe – smiling, benign, urbane, and anything but the archetypal policeman – finds himself in a race against time as he battles to stay loyal to his friends in the face of political interference, a refugee crisis, an unscrupulous press, age-old superstitions, and obsessions that have been handed down from generation to generation, while faced with men who will stop at nothing to achieve ends of which only they are aware. And caught in the crossfire – the unsuspecting members of a UNESCO expedition carrying out a survey to assess the possible future effects of climatic change and global warming on an unstable geological area.
