Hard Won War

'Total war' has arrived. By the end of 1943, the Allies are slowly winning the Second World War, although Hitler is determined to fight to the very end, in spite of the odds against Germany. He pins his hopes on defeating a cross-Channel invasion of Nazi-occupied Western Europe, and so-called 'miracle' weapons. Richard Baker faces a painful separation from his sweetheart, Beth Pavitt, when he goes away to fight in France. Beth's friends in the village of Oak Green have their own personal battles of a different kind to endure. Meanwhile, Major Schmidt is determined to keep the Allies from the borders of the Reich. In Berlin, his wife, Helga, fears occupation by the Russians. Relationships and courage are tested, as one nation strives towards victory, another is led into the abyss by its deluded leader.
