Set in a near-future society dominated by immersive digital faith and AI-driven sanctuaries, Code of the Covenant explores the collapse of authentic human connection under the weight of technological control. The story follows Kaito, a digital detective in Neo-Kyoto, as he investigates a catastrophic breach in the world’s most popular virtual church, the Lumina. These digital sanctuaries, once offering solace and community, are revealed to be sophisticated tools for surveillance and psychological manipulation, commodifying faith and shaping belief for corporate and political gain. As Kaito uncovers the truth, he is drawn into a rebellion led by Father Michael, a disillusioned architect of the system, who seeks to awaken humanity to the dangers of manufactured spirituality and algorithmic control. The novel’s climax, known as the Great Unplugging, sees the global digital network severed, leaving billions in a state of existential crisis as their curated realities vanish. In the aftermath, society is forced to confront the void left by the loss of digital faith and to rediscover the messy, imperfect, but genuine connections of physical community. The narrative interrogates the ethical boundaries of technology, the resilience of the human spirit, and the enduring quest for meaning in an age of artificial divinity. Ultimately, Code of the Covenant is a cautionary tale about the perils of outsourcing belief and connection to machines, and a call to reclaim the tangible, vulnerable, and deeply human aspects of faith and community.
