Bael remains in 17th century goetic occult documents as being one of the seven princes of Hell. The name is taken from the Canaanite deity Baal stated in the Hebrew Scriptures as the main god of the Phoenicians. Within this hierarchy, Bael is rated as the first and most important king of Hell, ruling over the East. Based on a number of writers, Baal is a Duke with sixty-six legions of demons under his authority. Throughout the English Puritan period, Baal was either compared to Satan or regarded as his right hand. In accordance with Francis Barrett, he possesses the power to render people who invoke him invisible or somewhat hidden, as well as some other demonologists state his power is more powerful in October. Based on some sources, he could make individuals wise, and talks hoarsely.
