'Strange Bedfellows'

The story of Rev Charles Stewart, the first Baptist minister in Brisbane, Queensland (Moreton Bay)Australia, and the United Evangelical Church that he led from 1849-1854, comprising Baptist, Presbyterian and Congregationalist members. Stewart was appointed chaplain on the 'Fortitude' by Rev Dr John Dunmore Lang as part of his grand immigration and settlement scheme for Moreton Bay, and after considerable uncertainty in the first few months, went on to establish a first rate ministry which was brought to an end in his ill health.
