In the past, Architecture was dependent on the proliferation of fossil fuels and the exploitation of other natural resources to create comfortable, human environments. It is 2072 AD. Fossil fuels are no longer viable. The city of Detroit is rebuilding its society based upon new sustainable forms of energy. Switchgrass, a robust perennial that can rejuvenate soils, create bio-materials, or be converted to ethanol for heat and electricity emerges as the best source of energy. The developing culture, economy, and industries around this plant are spurring growth in the city which has not been seen since the early 20th century.
