Thoughts of a Maths Genius

What does mathematics have to do with happiness, gender equality, entrepreneurship and football? More than most people think. In Thoughts of a Maths Genius: Provocative Articles, Edzai C. Zvobwo explores mathematics as a way of thinking about education, opportunity and everyday life. Drawing on articles written in the years leading up to 2016, he examines South Africa’s mathematics education challenges, questions familiar approaches to learning, and argues for stronger problem-solving skills across society. The collection moves from maths anxiety and classroom technology to mathematical happiness, women’s participation in science, African innovation and the role of social media in education. Its central concern is practical: how can mathematical thinking help people understand their circumstances and improve them? Written for educators, parents, learners, entrepreneurs and curious readers, these articles invite debate about what we teach, how we learn and whose potential we overlook.
