This study investigates the reasons for which Scottish people were referring to witchcraft in Early Modern Scotland between 1560 and 1740. These reasons include: 1) consulting and property and political motives: implications by another witch, 2) demonic aims alongside neighborhood dispute, 3) demonic possession, 4) fairies, 5) folk healing, 6) maleficium, 7) midwifery, 8) unorthodox religious practices, 9) treason – animals, 10) white magic, 11) property motives, 12) blasphemy, 13) political motives, and 14) economic dependant refusal.
