This booklet describes a journey of discovery through the sacred landscape around Avebury. By piecing together snippets of information gathered from a number of sources, including by direct observation, and by filling in the inevitable gaps in our knowledge using a little imagination, a pilgrimage route has been created. It takes us to a number of significant places in the vicinity of Avebury, through the lush green rolling countryside. As we make our journey, we can strip away our cares of today, and the manic pace of modern life, and put ourselves, in our imagination, back in time by four thousand years. Every pilgrimage must have a destination, and this is no exception. It is a most unexpected and remarkable quest, and preserves an ancient symbolism that is quite shocking in its way, with implications that are hard to comprehend.
