Reasons abound as to when and why a soft food diet may be necessary. Conditions like, Gastroparesis, Reflux Esophagitis – G.E.R.D, a Bezoar or Bowel Obstruction. Disorders like Dysphagia; which makes swallowing dangerous, difficult and frightening. Events like pregnancy, accident, stroke and/or dental extractions or surgeries. Which effect both ingestion and digestion. Undefined weakness or age can bring about a prescription for a soft food diet. Also sickness like cancer, infection and surgical resilience can prompt a soft food diet, especially if a patient is unable to get down or keep down solid foods, for recovery. And then there are sudden, unexpected injuries. Including the obvious injuries that can impact the face or jaw like those from automobile accidents, workplace accidents, recreations or sports. As well as those injuries that can impact one’s ability to efficiently process food beyond the mouth and throat. Different situations, different circumstances, different people make every reason for a soft food diet unique. It is that uniqueness that determines whether the diet will be long, medium or short in it’s duration. Unfortunately, no matter the person, often little help or definition of what a soft diet is and how it is applied to one’s life is given after the recommendation is made. This book, designed to be an easy read, is meant to offer some clarity. To provoke thought and provide an introduction. Hopefully, to make the journey into a soft food diet easier and more understandable. Although every situation is unique, everyone needs a start, a place to begin. This is especially true when it comes to something as important as food.
