THE REMITTANCE MAN
In the 1800’s Wyoming was experiencing a cattle boom. The British in England wished to participate and bought land in the Wyoming territory and built lavish ranches. They sent their sons or other male members of the family to run these ranches. To insure that these young men would stay in Wyoming, they were sent an allowance called a remittance. The local cowboys called these fellows Remittance Men.
