Travels

I first became fascinated by the Bowler hat after seeing my first Rene Magritte show at SF MOMA many years ago. The entire project took me 5 years to photograph, the images were taken in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. Many were taken at Huntington Library in Altadena, CA. I used 120 rolls of Kodak Tri-X film in a 1986 Rolleiflex 2.8 GX. The original prints were printed on Kodak Ektalure G paper followed by a heavy sepia tone treatment. The majority of the images are of a single vintage hat, made by John B Stetson in Philadelphia expressly for the Kenney-Kennedy Co in Worcester. Size 7 1/4 Block 542 Depth 5" Finish 27.
