Public architecture presents many, often underutilized, opportunities to provide comfort for its users. For instance, waiting in a typical queuing line gives need for a place to let the body rest. Often times, public spaces involve walking or touring where the body can easily tire, creating another need for rest. This presents an opportunity for the surrounding architecture to provide for temporary resting support of the body. To understand how building architecture can “support” the body, I need to further explore the body’s form and its interaction with the materials that come together to create built space. I make the connection using jewelry to help me explore this problem.
