Pit — The Libretti is the text volume of Snakeskin, the album by Margot White. The poems are the record's libretti, and several are performed as spoken word over the album's instrumentals. This collection of poetry offers a simple warning. "Don't go down into the cellar / you'll never make it out of there." Much like Persephone, Inanna, Alice, Bluebeard's wife, or Psyche, the reader goes down, regardless. In forty-four poems across five sections, Cellar, Anniversary, Mirror, Virgin Suicides, and She Likes the Sun and Grass, Margot White writes of young womanhood, trauma, betrayal, alchemy and reclamation through the unflinching lens of curiosity. The book holds both the cellar and the mirror. Whoever makes the descent will return changed, and may very well carry up something worth the journey.
