READERS of the Bantan novels should find his latest ad- ventures most unusual and absorbing to say the least. Even scientists will find food for thought in this new book, and all science-fiction fans should find it a <I>must</I>. Upon Mandoes Island, an American scientist known only as The Great One, had long since discovered the secret of longevity. In addition, he has created an electronic machine known as a retrovider, which is capable of photographing a subject's long-dormant brain cells as impressed by what long- dead eyes had witnessed in actuality. <I>"Bantan's Island Peril</I>," the last book in this series, ended with Bantan on a trail of vengeance, seeking an enemy known as Amar. The search leads him to Mandoes Island. Despite his precautions, he is taken a prisoner and brought to The Great One. Experiments follow, and the scientist realizes his greatest achievement, for he is able to photograph scenes of Bantan's earliest ancestors, who lived in the Old Stone Age--500,000 years ago. These episodes are described in full detail. Interesting characters in the book are Hulo and Humo, twin brothers, who serve The Great One. There is Loula, the servant girl, who becomes very much in love with Bantan. And there is Luane, a nurse, a beautiful girl who assists the scientist. She, too, realizes love for the handsome, bronzed giant, as he does with her. How their love progresses makes exciting reading which unfortunately cannot be disclosed here.
