Grounding and Bonding

This manual provides general guidance for design, construction, modification, inspection and acceptance testing of the grounding and bonding subsystems for building protection, electrical power ground fault protection, lightning protection and signal ground protection for both new and existing facilities. The procedures presented in this manual are basic. The objective of the manual is to define the state of the art and most commonly accepted practices for an integrated set of grounding and bonding practices of design and installation that is applicable to both new and existing facilities. This manual is based on a material previously published by the United States government. References to government facilities are made throughout the manual but the principles also apply to civilian construction. United States government standards typically are at least equal to civilian standards and usually exceed civilian standards.
