Tailings–leftovers; works salvaged from junk piles, accumulating as a byproduct of richer harvest. Treasures explored by the adventurist seeking to find additional bargain in life's passage. Such is the tone of the stories contained within this work: a medical technologist whose life is threatened because of the kind of work he must perform; a refugee who longs for reminiscent experiences in his homeland; a lover who regrets subjecting his girlfriend to higher education; a mother's disturbing letter from a son serving in Iraq; an elderly person seeking to enhance her life experiences; a child, fabricating his childhood experiences; two boys "getting even" with that miserable teacher; a reality show contestant getting less than she bargained for; a would-be writer's travails; a blind club pianist searching for a requested song, and other stories of similar ilk.
