Westland developed the Sea King from the Sikorsky SH-3 for the RN initially but went on to produce a number of variants for overseas customers and the RAF who from the 1970s used the Sea King HAR variants to equip its two SAR Squadrons, that in 2015 were disbanded with the role being taken over under contract by Bristow Helicopters registered in New York
