America (?) Misunderstood

Why the name of our nation was suddenly changed from Columbia to United States of America. A list of the things we do in the United States different from the way they are done elsewhere. Why we write the dates month, day, year, when the international usage is day, month and year? American TV and Movies confuse other cultures. Why we call "foreign" to things, languages and people that are not foreign.
