Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis is a satirical novel about George F. Babbitt, a prosperous real estate salesman living in a comfortable Midwestern American city. Though successful by society’s standards, Babbitt becomes increasingly dissatisfied with the conformity, materialism, and shallow values surrounding him. The novel explores themes of consumer culture, social pressure, identity, ambition, and the struggle between individuality and societal expectations.
