Born in Adelaide in 1940, Wayne Anthoney trained as a scientist with a strong interest in the theatre. After graduating from Adelaide University in 1962 he worked as a scientist for twelve years, before jumping off into the unknown and uncertain world of the actor. Acting led him to clowning; clowning led him to touring remote Aboriginal communities; that led to an increasing interest in and concern with the plight of Aboriginal people. In 1996 he accepted an offer from Lawrie Gorman to become Project Manager for Nyangatjatjara Aboriginal Corporation, the major project being the development from scratch of Nyangatjatjara College, an independent secondary school for Aboriginal teenagers in the vicinity of Uluru. This book is a chronicle of Wayne Anthoney’s thirty years’ involvement with the Pitjantjatjara Aboriginal people of Central Australia.
