A Morning Greek Devotional Liturgy

After a student of Koine Greek starts getting comfortable with the language, one of the first questions he asks is how he can incorporate it into his daily devotions. Because the Greek bible is a diverse document, with varied difficulty, gaining a level of reading fluency that allows you to read it close to your native language can take years to develop. Thus, many students find it difficult to follow a standard bible reading plan using the Greek. To make up for this deficiency, quite a few books have been published that provide anywhere from a month to a year’s worth of devotions from the Greek New Testament. A passage is given in the Greek, often with reading helps, and then an exegetical devotional is offered on that passage by a leading scholar. What I often find in the online Greek Student community, is that he is still frustrated because his once-spiritual time of nourishment has turned into a mental exercise, where he is parsing verbs, and deciding between different uses of the genitive. The spiritual connection between him and God is stifled. This book is a third option. Drawing inspiration from the Greek versions of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer (search: “Book of Common Prayer in Greek 1923”), Daily Prayers for Orthodox Christians (ISBN 0917651219), and the simplified pattern of Be Thou My Vision: A Liturgy for Daily Worship (ISBN 1433578190), I have attempted to create a simple way to integrate Greek into my daily worship.
