About Author Garrett Brooks
Garrett Brooks is an author, artist, and dedicated professional bridging creative, community, and service industries. He is completing a Bachelor of Communication and Creative Industries (English Literature major) at the University of Southern Queensland. Brooks has published three books: The Timeout Chair: A Handbook for Self-Care, the poetry collection Learning Through Living: Poetry for the Broken Soul, and the children's book Love Stays Close, which supports families affected by incarceration. His works, which explore themes of resilience, love, and personal healing from struggles like mental health and domestic violence, transform lived experience into meaningful storytelling. Professionally, he owns GBS Services, a cleaning and garden-maintenance company that promotes "second-chance employment". Garrett is also the founder of Onwards and Upwards NQ (OAUNQ), a not-for-profit supporting families of incarcerated individuals with resources like care packs and reintegration assistance. Brooks is a devoted single parent who balances study, entrepreneurship, and community service with compassion and integrity, continuously working to create opportunities for himself and others. His multidisciplinary artistic work spans poetry, fiction, and visual storytelling, inviting readers to reflect and reimagine the world.
