David Miles Burkett
The Very Rev. David Miles Burkett has been a journalist (radio, magazine, newspaper) and communications organization chief executive. He entered the Episcopal Church as a magazine communicator, organist/choirmaster, and retired a clergyman in 2002, after a career as a prep-school chaplain, educator, and pastor (including 11 years as a United Methodist Pastor in a dual Episcopal-United Methodist congregation in Florida.) David published his first book as a freshman in college. In 1999 he was appointed a Diocesan Chancellor and was consecrated Archvicar to the LGBTQ Community. Upon retirement to Palm Springs, CA in Emeritus status in 2002, he was assigned to an Apostolic Ministry to LGBTQ Communities of Southern California. Since 2002 and his leaving active parish ministry, he has self-disclosed his being Gay, and is now partnered. His apostolate is to young men and women who are facing discrimination for their sexual orientation, and he carries on ministry to students and faculty.
