Margaret Lovatt Santon
Margaret Santon lived life on the edge. Whether enriching the lives of children and families as the principal of Columbine School for Exceptional Children, helping to establish the Durham Recycling Centre in 1979, or homesteading in Hastings, Ontario, she always left the world just a little better. Marg began her life as an author writing for magazines, and had a long run with a gardening column in local newspapers before she began to publish her books. Her gardening columns appeared in the Campbellford and Cobourg newspapers. In the last 6 years, she wrote stories about her life for her writing group and for the Tribune out of Warkworth. Sadly, Marg passed away in 2025, after a long struggle with illness. Even during her final difficult years, she continued to write and educate. Her last book, "Fresh Nails" describes her life as a homesteader, as she mastered country living in agrarian Ontario.
