In 2008 Stephen won the Tinniswood Award for his play Memorials to the Missing. Memorials also won Silver in the Best Drama Award in the 2008 Sony Radio Academy Awards. His other original work for radio includes Fairest Isle (Radio 3. Sony Award), Party Animal (Radio 4 Tinniswood shortlist), Gerontius (Radio 4) and Farewell Symphony (Radio 3) with Richard Briers as Haydn. Stephen is also well known for his dramatisations. Highlights include: Walter de la Mare’s Memoirs of a Midget (1993), Zola’s The Ladies’ Paradise (1997), Sketches by Boz (1998-1999), Gilbert without Sullivan (2003-4), Arnold Bennett’s The Old Wives’ Tale (2004), Vanity Fair (2004), Tom Jones (2007), The Yellowplush Papers (2009) and The Complete Ripley (also 2009). Most recently he’s been working on Classic Chandler for Radio 4. His original play about the collaboration between Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler, Double Jeopardy, was broadcast earlier this year on Radio 4 with Patrick Stewart as Chandler.
