Set in 1994, on the eve of the internet and financial revolutions of the nineties, this novel tells the story of a young historian in search of permanent employment through a number of encounters and discussions with old and new friends. These discussions, mainly about the fears and hopes that come with rapid social change, make this a novel of ideas. However, it is also a tale of loyalty and betrayal, mystery and romance. When the young man’s research accidentally threatens to expose a botched false-flag operation dating from just prior to WWII, he finds that the affair casts a shadow over every aspect of his life, not the least his love for the daughter of a man who may have played a major part in its deadly cover-up.
