The concept of “the common good” is central to many religious faiths and goes hand in hand with the Golden Rule of doing unto others as we would want done unto ourselves. Gary E. Maring, a longtime advocate for social justice, explores the concept of the common good in detail in this book, focusing on basic necessities such as a place to live, food to eat, access to education, employment, health care, and human dignity. He includes a a special case study on homelessness in the nation's capital and the role of N Street Village programs for homeless women which Mr. Maring helped found nearly 50 years ago.
