Hawthorne Academy student Asher Harcourt is certain that his life is in order when he accepts a job as a night guard at the Havershire Museum of Fabled Artifacts. But everything changes when notorious thief Jet Swift steals a priceless locket on Asher’s watch. To restore his reputation, Asher must reclaim the artifact. But nothing at the museum is quite what it seems, and he isn’t prepared for what’s inside: a living girl. That girl, Sareill, has only distant memories of life before the locket. But there is one truth she knows for certain: she was destined to die. With the Firefly’s fabled gift to grant three wishes before sailing out of existence like a shooting star, she can’t help but romanticize her own show-stopping death. But Asher refuses to make such lethal wishes, and it isn’t long before they both find themselves on the run from an enemy bent on using Sareill’s power for an unknown purpose. They’ll have to rely on each other (and a couple familiar allies) if they want to see the future Asher always dreamed of…the one Sareill never dared to hope for.
