More than a Grain is a wide-ranging novel that represents the Author's search for "Truth" in a landscape that brings together the paradox of faith, science and art within everyday existence. Inspired by real events, it is the story of an American family farm and its struggle against a giant agricultural corporation, intent on asserting its intellectual property right to protect its patented brand of genetically modified (GM) maize. Set in Iowa, as beautiful as the Garden of Eden, the narrative explores the implications of past and present patent law on agricultural policy and its impact on the environment and the lives of people. It is a panoramic view that spans more than a hundred and fifty years of American farming practice, the lives of settlers and the treatment of indigenous people. It is set against the stories of several remarkable characters, the vivid imagery of the Midwest and the iconic art of the American Scene painters.
