Another Life

My father’s life had several distinct parts. Fishing and sealing encompassed his life as a lad. As a young man he sought something more and gave the watchmaker’s trade a short try. But, already the cries of free land out west beckoned him and he became a farmer. Farming was interrupted for a time to take up the life of a soldier. After his return home, he married and had children. Following the death of his first wife, he re-married and several more children joined the family. It was a busy and full life. When asked about earlier aspects of his life he was fond of saying, “But that’s another life,” hence the name of this book.
