There are ten citations of the Old Testament by Matthew in his narrative of the life of Christ, and thirteen which are attributed to Jesus. There are, of course, dozens of allusions to the Old Testament, the exact number of which varies from scholar to scholar. These allusions will not concern us in this volume.
This volume provides commentary on the context of each citation in Matthew, and then a detailed exegesis of the Old Testament passage cited in its immediate context. This will enable the reader to determine if both Matthew and Jesus made fair use of the old covenant Scriptures.
