When her family becomes too large to manage on their small income, Frances Price turns to her wealthy sister for help. Assistance is given via an offer to receive the oldest daughter into their household as a type of unpaid servant. At the age of 10, Fanny Price arrives at Mansfield Park to grow up with four older cousins, Tom, Edmund, Maria, and Julia. Fanny is treated as inferior to the others in the household and soon learns not to expect any real kindness or consideration. Fanny realizes that her circumstances at Mansfield Park are better than her circumstances in her parent's home and tries to be as helpful, and to maintain a high standard in her actions. She is hindered by a natural shyness and quiet nature in the face of her mean natured relatives. As Fanny tries to find her way in life, her aunts, her cousins and her cousins friends seem to be trying to entrap her in one scheme after another.
