Calculated Risk is a business thriller and concerns the efforts of Carl Vandemeer to wrest control of a major American corporation from his wife, June. His plan involves manipulating the share price of the company, The Americans Trust, and depressing it to a level where he can purchase a controlling interest. Caught in the middle of this unfolding scheme are Carl’s son Michael, who works for the corporation, and Amanda Shaw, the CEO of a PR agency which manages the communications for The Americans Trust. Carl’s takeover bid involves, among other things, the manipulation of Amanda’s agency into producing a campaign as part of his plan to first inflate the share price of The Americans Trust and then collapse it.
