Markings 27 pays tribute to Tessa Ransford, who celebrates her 70th birthday this year, with an in-depth interview and commentaries on her life and work from friends and prominent figures. The magazine also carries tributes to the late Angus Calder and Duncan Glen. Short stories come from Hugh McMillan and Lynn Otty while over thirty five poets are represented, including Tom Leonard, Tom Pow, Liz Niven, Chris Considine, Donald Adamson, James McGonigal, Maureen Sangster and Alan Franks. Scottish photographers visit Brittany and provide two photo-essays from Silvy Weatherall and Anne Darling. Alastair Reid’s and Tessa Ransford’s latest collections are reviewed by J B Pick, while John Hudson looks at the work of Susan Millar DuMars and Angela Patten. Peace is celebrated in a sequence of poems commissioned by The Bakehouse and Markings and printed in a special section in this issue.
