John Muir , who knew the Yosemite valley and surrounding areas intimately, composed this narrative to paint a vivid picture of his “marvelous wonderland” for the public at a time when preservation of our national parks was under siege.
Included are chapters on the climate and the flora and fauna (esp. birds) native to The Yosemite, as well as Muir’s geologic and exploratory history of the valley. He also includes suggested tours of the valley’s most scenic features. Sprinkled throughout are Muir’s own adventures and observations of the park, accrued through his years living there.
