Layla is a hard-working wife in Bradford married to a pious imam. During the daytimes, her life is filled up with duties in the masjid and the madrassah and balancing the demands of her husband, her mother-in-law and her faith, whilst trying to come to terms with the much younger second wife that her husband has recently married.
But at night she lives a separate existence online, chatting with people from around the globe whose lives are very different to her own. Jews, Christians, atheists... and men. She is careful to keep her two lives separate but then she starts having vivid, troubling dreams in which a white English girl wearing Victorian clothes keeps coming to her, urging her towards a place where she is scared to go.
