Not Quite Classics is a full color catalog of whimsical works of literature. Readers of all ages will chuckle along as they read the entertaining plot summaries and reviews of such would-be classics as David Coppertone, The Call of the Mild, Scents and Sensibility, Larry Potter And The House of Detention, Jane Hair and nearly two dozen other improbable novels. Each story is paired with appropriately preposterous cover art. English students and other literary types who attempt to “flip through the pages just for the fun of it”, as the author suggests, may instead find themselves stopping to speculate on the true meaning of L.B.S. Eliot’s The Waist Land, the cause of the sudden divorce between Mister Darcy and Elizabeth, or the symbolism behind Captain Mallard’s search for that great yellow sea beast Moby Duck. A playful introduction clearly demonstrates there’s fun inside, and each subsequent page provides evidence that “life doesn’t always have to be lived so seriously.”
