Happily Ever After?

The day Lenora met her, it was raining, something that had not occurred in Ambrose for a very long time. The small town had lived through drought after drought, and was plagued by warm, sunny days that were killing the crops with a quickness akin to godhood. In that same time period, Lenora, the kingdom’s resident oracle, had been in a weird sort of daze, halfway between reality and the prophecies that consumed her, almost to the same extent as they did when she was a much younger girl. On the oracle’s eighteenth birthday, however, the daze broke. And the rain began. Then a girl arrived. A very sensible girl, true at heart and sure. Someone with a brain, a will, a serious kind of dream that centered family. Fate wrapped into a single human. Something had changed.
