Thoughts At Large

Thoughts At Large is a collection of columns originally published in The Geauga County Maple Leaf newspaper of northeastern Ohio. TAL covers literally every area of subject matter, including religion, politics, music, history, pop culture, food, and adult beverages. The series began in February of 1998 as a letter to erstwhile Editor-In-Chief Don Buchanan. After a local college student composed a satirical feature criticizing the grocery business, Ice responded with his own positive view of the same topic. Favorable reader reaction moved Buchanan to ask for more material from the author. And a new tradition was born on the Northcoast! Ice is a former cartoonist, bicycle stuntman, retail manager, TV-show host, musician, sports editor, public speaker, and department-store janitor. He began writing at the age of ten, in Lynchburg, Virginia. His adventure as a professional writer began a decade later. Current Editor-In-Chief John Karlovec has continued to support for TAL as an integral part of the newspaper.
