Mardship Bow takes us forward into a post-teleportation Yorkshire of the future where water has claimed much of the UK and the Yorkshire Omnibus Company sets out to claim dominion over Time itself. The Tet is the only man who stands between the bus company and their goal. Due to an archaic agreement, Tet maintains the integrity of the mysterious Tet-line, an ancient route between Bratfud, Leeds and Halifacts. So long as Tet makes it to Halifacts Beacon by sundown on the Winter Solstice, all will be well. But this year, everything is stacked against him. Complete with flying sharks, an incompetent detective and an appearance by Robert Maxwell, Mardship Bow is, by turns, surreal, bawdy and philosophical. This book manages to combine the abstruse imaginings of Thomas Pynchon with the cheeky wit of Terry Pratchett, at the same time placing itself in a post-apocalyptic Arcadia worthy of Thomas Hardy. Magical Realism meets Psychogeography in this futuristic, iconoclastic romp.
