Vic Grant a Scottish criminal is forced to sell his chemical business, his wife had informed the press and police about his pay-offs and involvement in the dumping of toxic wastes beneath buildings under construction. He travels to Jersey where he banks all the money from the sale of the business. The following day he meets up with the other members of their exclusive club of law breaking conmen. As each is encountered in turn, the story goes back in time through their history and their various swindles. Vic advises them of his decision to sell up. The group decide to disband and plan one large final con against the establishment simply to get the satisfaction of having done it. Vic plans the last con, which is the removal of valuable paintings stored in a basement and belonging to the Scottish Art Gallery. The job goes well they each take their share of the proceeds and the group separate, each going their own way. The members periodically come to Vic’s notice through media reports as they ply their trade.
