Buduburam

Buduburam follows the stories of Liberian war survivors navigating the varied pitfalls life throws at them. Orphaned as a child, Emmanuel’s treacherous journey begins when he is smuggled on an illegal immigrant ship bound for the uncertain shores of Ghana, a West African dumping ground for refugees from war torn Liberia and Sierra Leone. Accompanied by his black-hearted Aunty, Martha Paygai; Emmanuel is sold into slavery upon arrival to Imoro Banda, a brutal fisherman, who is hell-bent on working the boy to death. Years of servitude and inhumane treatment will harden young Emmanuel’s heart until he finds himself falling in love with Ohenewaa, his slave master’s daughter, the one person he can never have. Fast forward a few years into the future, Emmanuel is rescued from his tormentor and given an education.
