The year is 2032, when the UK has become a semi-autonomous region of a European Superstate. A military clique bent on seizing power has invaded the home of elderly twin brothers John and Simon Briggs - one a retired general and former head of the regional government, the other a once highly successful and powerful businessman. The general, war veteran and pragmatic republican, had been responsible for negotiating the country’s place in a federalized EU’s scheme of things. Now the plotters want to groom him as a figurehead who can lend respectability to their revisionist plans. It gradually emerges though, that the general’s twin may have been the dominant influence... but which twin is which? The brothers’ estranged sister thinks she may know...
