Being an educator, I understand the importance of expanding a child's world through literacy. It allows them the opportunity to develop emotional intelligence, empathy, and so much more. Schema theory explains how our previous experiences, knowledge, emotions, and understandings affect what and how we learn (Harvey & Goudvis, 2000). Schema is the background knowledge and experience readers bring to the text. In creating fluent and avid readers, we want our children to elicit prior knowledge and experience to help them comprehend what they are reading and use that knowledge to make connections. Writing books where my own children and children all around the world can feel that connection is why I decided to pursue becoming a Children's Book Author.
