Fridays at Flaxton is the outcome of a meeting of five poets in 2006, the formation of the group Pente Poets, and their exploration together of the essence of contemporary Australian poetry. From very different literary environments and each with a unique personal style, they share a common belief: While poetry as communication exists to be shared it is primarily the journey which lies at the core of their passion for writing; it is the medium, rather than its manifestations, which provides the greatest impulse to create. The book provides a series of whistle-stops on a number of different journeys with the same destination, full of unexpected twists and turns as all good journeys should be. The poems are arranged in sections (Love and Desire, Nature, Other Worlds, Sense of Place, Yearning and Loss, Humour, Conflict, Seascapes, Reflections on Life, Memories, Philosophical Thoughts, Mortality) which highlight the diversity one would expect from such a gathering of independent minds.
