Rolanda Black, African American star crime reporter for Nightly News is determined to win the Peabody. Joey Fuller, a twelve-year-old drug runner, is the perfect Talking Head. Rolanda decides to feature Joey in her documentary, 'The Hood in Black.' Rolanda, her producer, and camera man move into the Fuller's apartment in the projects for the weekend. Rolanda's past catches up with her. She knows Joey's mother Deloris. For six years Rolanda was married to the most powerful and beloved drug trafficker in New York City, Robert Fergusen, better known as Slideman. He has just been released from prison after serving six years for stabbing Rolanda in a fit of rage. During the weekend Rolanda and Deloris form an unlikely alliance. Rolanda remembers Joey's boss Papa Jack. Joey's life is in danger. Rolanda is certain that Papa Jack will kill Joey because of his participation in her documentary.
