My Secret War

Caroline Harper, a young Pennsylvanian girl, thinks she has decided to accept slavery, despite her state’s loyalty to the Union. Her tutor and cousin Miss Hannah, who grew up on a Virginian cotton plantation, has led Caroline to believe slavery is but a harmless lifestyle. After witnessing slavery firsthand, Caroline knows what is right, but is afraid of disappointing Miss Hannah. Caught between both sides of the destructive American Civil War, Caroline must decide for herself what is right and act on that, even if it means defying part of her family.
