A lightly written and sometimes amusingly cynical introduction to the evolution and interconnections of politics, economics, philosophy and religion throughout history. It traces the journey of Homo sapiens from hunter gatherers, the evolution of cities and agriculture to the present day with its sophisticated technology and complex interactions analysing each stage of the long journey towards what we are today. The author is non religious but not anti religion, mostly apolitical and would probably espouse a far eastern philosophy if pressed. The book provides a wide ranging historical framework in plain language designed to inform but make no judgements while posing questions. There is a review of global warming and some controversial options. It will be of particular interest to those young people who will inherit the earth and want to understand how we arrived at today and the options they have for their ‘tomorrow’ and the future survival of their species.
